Talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Sibia said: "Though we welcome people's mandate, but some party leaders had played a big role in the defeat of Congress candidates in the elections and the party high command should take action against them."

"If the party had taken a strict action against the detractors, Congress candidate Vijay Inder Singla would have won the elections from Sangrur,"he added.

He said in other Lok Sabha constituencies, too, detractors had a role in the defeat of party candidates. He, however, condemned the party leaders, who demanded the resignation of PPCC president Partap Bajwa for poor performance of the party saying: "Bajwa worked hard to ensure the victory of the party as he managed to reduce the margin of defeat."

In a reply to a question, he said that the Congress high command would soon hold a meeting of party leaders of the state to discuss further strategy.
