The Punjab advocate general would render his opinion on future of Punjab local bodies minister, Navjot Singh Sidhu’s association with a comedy show, Kapil Sharma show, on Thursday.
Though he did not divulge the details, Punjab advocate general, Atul Nanda, confirmed having received letter from the government on Wednesday and said that he will render his advice on Thursday.
“I am away in Delhi for some engagements. …We are seized of the matter and an opinion will be submitted (to the government) on Thursday,” the AG said.
WHAT GOVERNMENT WANTS TO KNOW
As per sources the government has put three broad questions before the state advocate general. The government has sought to know whether the minister’s participation in a show attracted office of profit provisions and also whether Sidhu’s participation in a private show breached provisions of any laid down law. Besides this, it has sought to know whether his participation could be against code of conduct for ministers, if at all code is in place, the sources said.
“The government’s apprehensions are on the same lines about which allegations are coming from different quarters. Cursory reading of the various laws so far points to no violation. But I would add, it is still being examined,” an informed source told Hindustan Times.
