Signature drive against closure of Cantt gates during night
Swabhiman, an NGO, has launched a signature campaign to pressurise army officials to take back the decision to close all entry gates to Jalandhar cantonment during night.
"The army officials have violated the fundamental rights of the people living in the adjoining villages by closing all the entry gates for civilians during nights. The residents had to face lot of harassment due to the dictatorial act of the army on the pretext of security," said Sunny Chouhan, the founder president of the NGO.
"Through this signature campaign we are bringing together all the affected persons so that we move court of law to seek remedy," he added.
Several villagers had earlier staged a protest against the army's decision but the defence officials had denied opening of the gates for civilians during nights.
