When he got study visa, his poor parents thought their financial worries were over, and their hard-working son would be successful abroad. Their heart sank at a call from Brisbane that Satwant had drowned in sea over there.

The family at Dharamkot in Moga district is shattered. "Satwant, younger of my sons, went to Brisbane, Australia, in 2009," said Kulwant Singh Dhillon, bereaved father.

The caller from Brisbane said the accident had occurred on Satwant's holiday trip with other students to New South Wales. Three friends, including Satwant, had gone swimming into the sea from the Belongil beach in Byron Bay town of the Australian state of New South Wales. They went far sea and Satwant failed to come out of the high waves.

All three friends were moved to a hospital nearby but Satwant had died by then.
