According to the police, there was a rift going on in the family which led to the suicide attempt. The suicide attempt was made by the Divya, the mother of the girl. She threw her daughter into the canal and later she also jumped into it.

In the meantime, her husband Harish, resident of Sahstra street, backside of the AC market, also reached there and jumped into the canal. The divers, who were present on the spot jumped into the canal to save their lives. But the girl couldn't be saved. She was found dead when the body was recovered. The parents have been arrested.

According to the diver, Omprakash, who had saved many lives earlier also, reached the spot and jumped into the canal to save them. "I tried very hard but could not save the girl's life. The mother of the girl pushed me very hard to keep me away and due to that my balance was shaken and the girl slipped away from my hold. I had held all of them in the water, including her husband, but the two were trying to break free from my hold", he said.

The Passiana police station SHO Dharam Dev said a case of suicide had been registered against the couple. The body of the girl had been sent to a hospital for the post-mortem examination.
