Surprise check finds PCS officer among 69 absent

As many as 69 officials, including a Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officer Rahul Gupta, were found absent during a surprise check of the offices of director social security, animal husbandry and sports conducted by the personnel department here on Tuesday.

As many as 69 officials, including a Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officer Rahul Gupta, were found absent during a surprise check of the offices of director social security, animal husbandry and sports conducted by the personnel department here on Tuesday.

According to a government spokesperson, Rahul Gupta, director sports, and 13 employees of his department including an executive engineer, a deputy director, officer on special duty (sports), private secretary, steno, clerks, superintendent, driver and office assistant were found absent during the check conducted on the directions of chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal.

Similarly, 25 officials from the office of the director social security, women and child development, including a child development project officer, senior assistant, superintendent, steno typist, clerks, programme officer, stenographer, data entry operators and peons were found absent.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, a maximum of 31 employees of varying degree of hierarchy were found absent in the animal husbandry department. Interestingly, it was found that leave was marked in the attendance register of many employees but no leave application was available to support the same.
