Tarlok Singh Chauhan was sworn in as additional judge of the Himachal Pradesh high court on Sunday.
He was administered the oath of office by acting chief justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir in a simple ceremony at the Himachal Pradesh high court.
Justice Tarlok Chauhan was born on January 9, 1964, in Rohru. He did his schooling from Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, and studied law from Panjab University, Chandigarh.
He was enrolled as an advocate with the Himachal Pradesh bar council in 1989. He also remained standing counsel-cum-legal adviser to Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited and State Civil Supplies Corporation.
He also remained member of various lok adalats held in the high court and subordinate courts. He was appointed amicus curiae by the HC in many important cases relating to violation of environmental laws by the hydel projects, ropeways, ban on plastic and tobacco products, implementation of solid waste management projects and framing of road construction policy in the state.
The high court judges, justice Sanjay Karol, justice Rajiv Sharma, justice VK Sharma and justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary, lokayukta Lokeshwar Singh Panta, chairman of the state consumer commission Surjit Singh, retired judges Bhawani Singh, Surinder Singh, DP Sood, advocate general Shrawan Dogra, principal secretary to the chief minister VC Pharka, deputy mayor Tikender Panwar, former deputy mayor Harish Janartha, registrars of the HC Sureshwar Thakur, Sushil Kukreja, KS Chandel and Arvind Malhotra and other prominent persons were also present on the occasion.
