Strict legal action will be taken against the travel agents, who do not publish their registration number in any sort of advertisement issued by them, deputy commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma said on Monday.
Sharma said it is mandatory for every travel agent to publish their registration number in advertisements issued by them. He said, “Any advertisement issued by the travel agents in any medium whether in print, electronic, on walls or vehicles, should carry the registration number of the travel agent.”
“Laxity in this regard on part of travel agents will not be tolerated at any cost and strict action will be taken against the violator by the district administration,” he added.
The publisher of the advertisement will have to verify and retain the copy of registration certificate failing which action will also be taken against them.
Sharma also appealed publishers and broadcasters to first ask for a copy of registration certificate of travel agents before publishing and broadcasting their advertisements.
The DC said the aim is to save people from the clutches of unauthorised travel agents. He said the district administration has already uploaded names of registered travel agents on the official website jalandhar.nic.in
People desirous of visiting other countries should visit the website and contact these travel agents, which have been registered by the district administration, ticketing agents and consultancy firms.
