Two municipal workers killed cleaning sewer
Two persons died while three others fell unconscious while cleaning the sewerage at Bhagtan Wala here on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Gauri and Charanjit while three others who were under treatment were identified as Nishan, Vicky and Rawail.
Two persons died while three others fell unconscious while cleaning the sewerage at Bhagtan Wala here on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Gauri and Charanjit while three others who were under treatment were identified as Nishan, Vicky and Rawail.
They are contractual employees of the municipal corporation. Both Gauri and Shankar reportedly got suffocated and died. The other three also fell unconscious but were rushed to the local Guru Nanak Hospital, where their condition was said to be stable. Police and MC officials reached the hospital and assured the families of the deceased of all support.
MC commissioner Dharam-pal Gupta said, "It is an unfortunate incident and the municipal corporation will provide all help to the families. The MC has all safety measures in place for those engaged in cleaning work."
