Under-19 World Cup win: Celebrations break out at Amritsar lad Abhishek’s house

His father was a national player too.

As India beat Australia to lift the Under-19 World Cup on Sunday, celebrations erupted at the house of city lad Abhishek Sharma, who was part of the winning squad.

Resident of Shiv Nagar locality, Abhishek’s kin remained glued to the television since morning to watch the final match. The residents of the locality also participated in the celebrations.

Sharma’s grandmother Bimla Rani, father Raj Kumar Sharma, mother Manju Sharma, sister Sania and Komal Sharma rejoiced the victory. Mother Manju Sharma said,“Since childhood, my son had interest in cricket and I believed that he will be a member of the Indian cricket team.”

She said, “When he was just 9-months old, he used to carry a ball in his hands. His father was his first coach who himself was a national player.”

His father said, “Keeping in view his talent, I started taking him to ground at the age of three and half year, where coach Parkash Chand, former national player, and Harwinder Singh, former international player guided him and taught the skills of the sport.”Notably, Sharma has also been selected by the Delhi Daredevils for the IPL.
