Chasing the truck and registering its number that ran amok on city roads, it had hit a vehicle in Sector 45, on Saturday night by two unidentified persons helped the police in nabbing the driver on Monday.
Makhan Singh (45), hails from Hoshiarpur. He was booked on the complaint of Rajiv Singh Sandhu, Sector-45 resident, after his vehicle was hit by a speeding truck. Makhan was trying to escape after he was drinking in a public place and feared that he may get arrested as some kids had noticed him drinking at the Sector-45 mandi ground.
In his haste and allegedly inebriated, he hit Sandhu’s vehicle who had come to the market and parked his vehicle near the mandi ground.
A passerby, with the help of another person who was on a bike, chased the truck and registered its number. What’s more they made a video which sequences their chase. Later, they informed the police. The truck driver had purportedly put commuters’ lives in danger.
The video was uploaded on social media.
Burail police traced the accused from the registration number. Makhan told the police that he was drinking in the Mandi ground where a few children playing had noticed him. He feared that the children may inform the police and to escape the police action for drinking in public he sped from the place, said police.
“I did not see the car while driving out of the ground and hit the vehicle,” Makhan told police.
A case on statement of Sandhu was registered under Sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) of the IPC at Sector-34 police station.
