The state vigilance bureau on Monday found wheat bags worth rs 64 lakh missing from a Punjab agro food corporation godown in Patiala.
The bags were found missing during a surprise check conducted by the VB along with officials of Punjab food supply and agro food grain corporation at a godown at Ghagga.
Patiala deputy superintendent of police DSP (vigilance) KD Sharma said the godown was sealed on Monday evening after over 8,700 bags (each with 50-kg capacity) were found missing from the godown.
“These bags are stocked in bundles and can be sold for at least rs 1,500 per quintal in the open market,” he said. “Even the bags we inspected were found to be having insufficient weight,” said Sharma.
Sharma said Sukhwant Singh, the godown custodian, was present during the search. However, during the preliminary inquiry Sukhwant Singh found responsible for the missing wheat bags from the godown.
The DSP said they have prepared a detailed report regarding the missing bags and forwarded it to senior officials seeking criminal action against the guilty.
