Will boost sports and leather industry in Jalandhar: Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa

Bajwa honoured 108 officers and employees from different departments and NGOs for their contribution towards the society.

The rural development and panchayat minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that the state government is committed to put Punjab on high growth trajectory to emerge as a front-ranking state and restore its glory, during the Independence day celebrations at guru Gobind Singh Stadium here on Tuesday.

He announced to provide water supply connection to every household by December 31, this year. He said, “The government will provide a subsidy of Rs 15,000 to the poor, to construct toilets. As many as nine districts of the state have been declared open-defecation free and the remaining 13 districts will follow the suit in the coming months.

“Efforts will be made to boost sports and leather industry in Jalandhar. All technical and logistics support will be provided to compete with their peers at international-level,” he added. The cricket bat manufacturers will be facilitated to resolve their issues in bringing wood from Jammu and Kashmir. He declared that the state government will explore the possibility of setting up a skilled-labour training institute in Jalandhar.

He said that Punjab will transform from a fiscal deficit to a fiscal surplus state. He said government is dedicated towards wiping out the drug menace. “Besides constituting a special task force (STF), the government has decided to construct sports stadiums at block-level to positively channelise the energy of youth,” he said.
