The Jamalpur police have booked a woman and her cousin brother for allegedly kidnapping a woman, who runs a music and dance academy in the area.

The FIR has been lodged against Amandeep Sharma, a resident of Balaji Enclave, Bhamian Kalan, and her cousin Bhanjit Singh of Amritsar on the complaint of the victim’s mother, Nimmo Devi of Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Baljit Singh, who is investigating the matter, said Amandeep suspected that victim Shagun, 35, was having an illicit relationship with her husband, Kunal Sharma, who used to learn music at Shagun’s academy. The victim, who is a dance teacher, is also married.

Nimmo Devi told the cops that on October 5, Amandeep contacted Shagun on her mobile phone and called her to meet near Sundar Nagar Chowk, Bhamian Kalan. Sachin Bhardwaj, who was accompanying Shagun, said the accused made her sit in their car and took her away. Since then, Shagun’s family has not heard from her.

Nimmo Devi told the cops that she suspected the accused had killed her daughter and dumped the body somewhere.

A case under Sections 364 (kidnapping in order to murder) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the duo. The ASI said police have launched an operation to trace and rescue the victim and arrest the accused.
