The youth wing of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal will take out a rally in the district on Sunday with hopes of tapping the vote bank of youngsters, which the party reckons is moving towards the Aam Aadmi Party.

The youth wing of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal will take out a rally in the district on Sunday with hopes of tapping the vote bank of youngsters, which the party reckons is moving towards the Aam Aadmi Party.

Party insiders, said that the state-wide rallies are being organised as SAD is worried about the shifting of the youth vote bank towards the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the membership drives are an attempt to boost the party's cadre before the 2017 assembly polls.

Though the rally is primarily aimed at readying the Youth Akali Dal (YAD) workers ahead of the upcoming membership drive, SAD leaders said that the rally will also be used to highlight the achievements and welfare policies of the SAD-BJP government in the state.

"The purpose of the rally is to unite the young leaders of the party and make them aware them about the membership drive which is likely to start in the next 15 days," said Harpal Singh Juneja, YAD's Malwa zone 2-incharge.

"Finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa will be the chief guest on the occasion, but we have also invited irrigation minister and coordinator of SAD Sharanjeet Singh Dhillon to address the rally. Dhillon may attend if he does not have any prior engagements," Juneja said.

This will be YAD the first rally in Sangrur since the Lok Sabha elections in May last year.
