The court of additional sessions judge Poonam R Joshi also imposed a fine of `50,000 on the convict out of which, a sum of `45,000 will be given to the victim's family.
22-year-old Jatinder Singh was accused of taking the girl to a secluded place on June 3, 2013, and attempting to rape her.A case was registered under Section 376 and 511 of the IPC and Section 9 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) but the court held the accused guilty under the provisions of IPC.
'It is a despicable act, the work of a pervert mind', observed the court, dismissing the defendant's plea of leniency.
