The film - ‘Dishom Guru Veer Shibu Soren’ - will not only reflect the tribal leader’s struggle for a separate Jharkhand but also untold tribal culture, its makers said on Sunday.

Soren is the founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and played a key role in the creation of Jharkhand. He was born on January 11, 1944 in Ramgarh district. He served as the chief minister of the state thrice besides working as a union cabinet minister.

Videsh Kumar Dan, the general secretary of Dhanbad Bar Association, will play Soren in the film.

Dan told HT: “Soren has done so much for Jharkhand. He is an inspiration to all of us. The film will show the story of a tribal youth who fought against atrocities of land lords and moneylenders.”

Dan said shooting would start from the next month at his native Maniyadih village in Dhanbad. “Shibu ji’s struggle for a separate Jharkhand till him becoming the state’s chief minister will be reflected in the biopic.”

The biopic’s director Nehal Ahmed, a resident of Dhanbad, said he had travelled to Soren’s birth place Nemra and Dhanbad’s Maniyadih village, where the tribal leader started his mass movement against moneylenders and land lords.

He said he also met several relatives and associates of Soren for getting insight into his life. “I have researched a lot for the film,” Ahmed said, adding that it will be releasing in June 2017.
