A wife blinded her husband with a stone grinder in Gumla district on Friday night after she was scolded for refusing to cook chicken.

Gumla police registered an FIR against Amrita who attacked her husband, Kishore Munda, and fled from her house in Tendar village under Ghagra police station area after committing the crime.

Ghagra police station-in-charge Pankaj Kumar Singh said Kishore had returned home with chicken from the local market and asked his wife to prepare it but she refused.

“A quarrel broke out between the two. Kishore was asleep when Devi attacked him with a stone grinder,” said Singh.

The FIR was registered by Kishore’s father, Jairam Munda. “After the quarrel my son got drunk and went off to sleep. Amrita pounced on the opportunity and attacked him,” said Jairam adding that Amrita then escaped to her village Maudand.

Munda was referred from the Gumla District Hospital to RIMS eye centre in Ranchi where the doctors said he has lost vision in the left eye.

A RIMS ophthalmologist said Munda’s left eye was totally damaged and chances of him retaining a vision was nil. He, however, said the victim’s condition was stable.
