A dumper operator of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) Om Prakash Chauhan poisoned four persons including his wife, two minor sons and sister in-law to death to save his love affair at Barora, 25 km away from district headquarters on Sunday night.

Chauhan, who was absconding after the incident, committed suicide on Monday afternoon. Police recovered his body near Gomoh Railway station.

Earlier, police recovered all four bodies from Barora based quarters of Chauhan at 10.30 pm of Sunday when Binod Nonia, brother in-law of the accused, informed the police, expressing fear that his two sisters and nephews might be in danger.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manoj Ratan Chothe , who reached the spot late night along with rural superintendent of police HP Janardan, said that prima facie it looked like a fallout of an unsuccessful love affair.

“It seems all the four were poisoned though the real reason would only surface after medical reports are available”, he said.

Doctor of community health centre (CHC) Dr Alok Shyamnandan, who declared all of them brought dead, said Suman Devi was killed two-day ago as her body was in decay, while the other three, could have been murdered 12 hours before they were found.

Binod Nonia, resident of Fusro of Bokaro district informed the police that his younger sister Nitu went to a beautician class on Sunday at 10.30 am. But when she did not return till late afternoon, he informed his brother in-law in Barora who replied that she had come to Barora and would return at 4 pm.

In the evening when Nitu did not return, he visited Barora house of his sister.

Om Prakash fled from the backdoor of his quarters without opening the door as soon as he saw Nonia.

On suspicion Binod raised an alarm. Later, police recovered bodies of Chauhan’s wife Suman Devi (32) , sister in-law Nitu Kumari (20) in one room besides elder son Piyush (12)and younger Harshit (10) bodies from another.

Neighbours of Om Prakash had seen him roaming on a bike along with his sister in-law in the day.

It is said Om Prakash killed his wife two-days ago and locked the body in a room. Nitu who came to know of it protested, which led to her killing. Later, he killed his sons to hide the crime wit poison laced chocolates.

Police said they found signs of struggle in the room.
