Kingfisher model Anjali Lavania to make film debut with Telugu film Panjaa soon, shoots item number with team that worked on Sheila ki jawani…, belly dances like Katrina Kaif did in the Tees Maar Khan song.

And now, model Anjali Lavania is taking her filmi stint forward Sheila Ki Jawani… style! Anjali, who featured in the Kingfisher calendar 2010 and 2011, has shot for her first item number, Veyira Cheyyi… opposite southern superstar Pawan Kalyan for her debut film, Panjaa.

The item outing is being compared to Sheila ki jawani… since it’s been shot in similar settings and is being directed by the same team that worked on the Tees Maar Khan track — choreographer Geeta Kapoor (who co-choreographed Sheila) and cinematographer PS Vinod.

Anjali, who happens to be a trained belly dancer, will also be seen doing some belly dancing for the track.

Having preempted the judgement, she says, “I understand the comparisons, because of the same team and oomph factor. But that’s where all of it stops. The song is portrayed beautifully in its own unique way and it was a delight to shoot for it, I simply unleashed my inner enchantress.”

Adding about Kat, she says, “Katrina and all the popular actresses are amazing and unique in their own way, so there is no need to compete. I plan to work hard and I will shine with my own light and will blossom when the time is right.”

While growing up, Anjali also trained in Indian classical dance forms.

“And I am a natural belly dancer, so all that definitely helped me prepare for the song. I had no rehearsal time, so it was a challenge. But with Gita’s guidance, I feel like I have done everyone proud,” she says. For the uninitiated, Anjali started off her silver screen journey with a Pankaj Udhas music video for the song called Jaaneman….

She went on to walk the ramp for a few New York and Los Angeles fashion weeks.
