Boyz director, Vishal Devrukhkar on the challenges of making the sequel
Director Vishal Devrukhkar of Boyz (2017) fame, admits that he was under a lot of pressure while making the sequel to the film
The movie Boyz, which starred actor Parth Bhalerao, went on to be a huge crowd-puller and a mass hit last year. The film revolves around city and village students who meet at a boarding school. It reflects their upbringing, coming of age, and much more. Director Vishal Devrukhkar was praised for the way he handled the innuendos of dialogues and the treatment of sex and comedy.
Vishal is not eagerly awaiting the release of the sequel, Boyz 2, and says, “Hrishikesh Koli (writer) and I were under a lot of pressure. We are aware of how not every sequel connects with the audience. We kept thinking of what to do. Avadhoot (Gupte, producer) guided us by saying, ‘Maintain the education premise and don’t take them out of a school or college’.”
He adds that he zeroed down on the storyline of the sequel when his phone stopped working. Sharing details, he says, “I became restless and anxious without my phone. That’s when I thought that if someone my age can feel this way, youngsters must be going crazy about their virtual presence. Thus, the virtual world and social media became the premise of our story.”
As a category, the film is for the masses and Vishal has no regrets. “I am giving the audience what they want. I have seen youngsters enjoy the film and relate to it. Hence, I ensured the same essence was brought out in the sequel too,” he adds.
