Marathi mulgi Sagarika Ghatge, who is currently shooting for Milind Ukey’s Monsoon Football is excited about her role. This will be Sagarika’s second Marathi film after Satish Rajwade’s Premachi Goshta (2013).

The Chak De! India (2007) actor had heard just one line of the story before agreeing to be a part of it. She feels, as an actor, one tends to have an instinct as to what you should and shouldn’t be part of. Sagarika says, “I am somebody who always goes by my instincts. And, there have been times when I haven’t, and I have seen the repercussions. So, I like to do what my gut tells me, if it works then well and good. If it doesn’t then that is what was written and you have to take it in your stride.”

Her film Monsoon Football has sports as the backdrop but it is not a sports film. It is something that all women will be able to relate to. “It is about women empowerment. Honestly, I did feel empowered while shooting. The character is something I haven’t played before and is challenging. It is very exciting to step into someone else’s shoes and portray something you have never experienced,” she says.

Sagarika adds that the script explores what happens in everyday lives of most women and how she goes about dealing with it. Her Chak De! India co-star Vidya Malvade will also be seen in the film. “It has been great to do scenes with her. We are bonding yet again on sets,” she adds.

On her list of forthcoming projects, she says, “I have shot for a bilingual project, Haadsa, with Gulshan Devaiah. I am open to exploring the web medium too, considering there is such great content being made.”

Sagarika has made quite a few trips to Pune owing to her husband Zaheer Khan’s hospitality business here. “It is exciting to be part of a field that is different. I love food and I am happy to be a part of it,” she says.

‘It’s helpful to have Zaheer’s advice’

When you are married and living together, you tend to discuss everything. It’s the same with Zaheer and me. When it comes to work, he does advice me but in the end, he pushes me to take the final decision. He tells me that it is my choice on which film needs to be signed. Lot of people come to him for suggestions. He is very mature and is good when it comes to making strategies, just like when he used to play. It is even more helpful to have him around at all times.
