Kanchana 3, which heavily borrows all the popular horror tropes from its predecessors, is focused on its protagonist Raghava, who will scream and run for life at the mere mention of the word ghost. The film starred Oviya, Vedhika and Nikki Tamboli as the leading ladies. It also featured the usual suspects Kovai Sarla, Sriman and Divyadarshini who’ve been a pivotal part of the franchise from its inception.
Meanwhile, Lawrence is gearing up to commence work on Hindi remake of Kanchana 2 starring Akshay Kumar. The Hindi remake has been titled Lakshmi, and it is said that Akshay plays a character that will be possessed by a ghost of a transgender. Kiara Advani has been signed as the leading lady. It will be interesting to see how brand Kanchana, which cemented Lawrence’s career as a filmmaker, will be received by Bollywood audiences.
Last year, Lawrence announced that he will join Rajinikanth’s political crusade and serve as his kaavalan (guardian). Releasing a statement, he had said that “Rajinikanth reiterated he doesn’t want party members per se; but guardians who would stand by his ideologies and support him throughout his political sojourn”.
