Mahanati: Makers tease with another picture of Dulquer Salmaan as Gemini Ganesan

In upcoming trilingual biopic Mahanati, based on the life of legendary southern actress Savitri, Dulquer Salmaan will be seen essaying the role of veteran actor Gemini Ganesan, who was also Savitri’s husband.

Dulquer Salmaan is making some really interesting career moves. Having mostly worked in Malayalam cinema and briefly seen in Tamil films as well, Dulquer is expanding his based to Hindi and Telugu industries this year. In upcoming biopic Mahanati, on legendary southern actress Savitri, Dulquer will be seen essaying the role of veteran actor Gemini Ganesan, who was also Savitri’s husband. The makers on Wednesday released a picture of Dulquer as Gemini and it teased his fans enough. It has also been confirmed that Dulquer has wrapped up shooting his portion for the film.

Speaking about casting Dulquer as Gemini Ganesan, director Nag Ashwin had told Hindustan Times, “Dulquer’s character of Gemini Ganesan will not merely be on how the legend will be perceived today based on his work and his image. The character goes beyond the physical resemblance, in understanding the veteran on a more emotional level.” Mahanati, according to reliable sources, will be magnum opus period film set in the golden era. With massive set pieces, the film will be unlike anything we’ve explored in Indian cinema.

Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, the film has been simultaneously made in Telugu and Tamil. The makers are contemplating getting the movie dubbed in Malayalam as well. Keerthy Suresh will be seen as Savitri in the film, which also stars Samantha Akkineni, Vijay Deverakonda, Shalini Pandey and Prakash Raj in crucial roles.
