Vijay’s Adhirindhi, the Telugu version of Mersal postponed.

It looks like Vijay’s film Mersal is still facing trouble. The Telugu version, titled Adhirindhi, is now postponed amid talks about the controversial GST speech being censored in the film. Aditi Ravindranath, executive producer at Thenandal Studios and Sreedhar Pillai, trade analyst, both confirmed that the film is being postponed until further notice.

People on Twitter have already started to blame the BJP for the delay. However, it is unclear as to why the CBFC has delayed certification for the Telugu version of the film, which was released in its original Tamil version, Mersal, across several states on October 18. Mersal had received U/A certificate from the censor board.

BJP had raised objection to the GST scene just a day after the release of the Tamil film. Post this, other political leaders and film fraternity questioned BJP members’ behaviour towards a film that was already censored. Meanwhile, the producers had met with senior BJP members to resolve the issue and also issued a statement about both the sides coming to an understanding.

Also starring Nithya Menon, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Kajal Aggarwal, the film is about the corrupt healthcare system in India and how a doctor tries to clean up the system. After releasing on October 18, it has reportedly collected Rs 176 crore worldwide at the box office. With all the attention over the Vijay vs BJP controversy, the film has got a lot of publicity that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.
