Singer Shan Johnson, 29, found dead in her Chennai apartment

Singer and composer Shan Johnson was found dead in her apartment in Chennai on Friday. The 29-year-old had health issues and the police is investigating the matter.

Singer and music composer Shan Johnson, daughter of late music director Johnson, was found dead in her apartment in Chennai on Friday, police said. They said her mother and another close relative went to her flat in Ashok Nagar this morning after she did not respond to repeated phone calls on her mobile and found her dead.

Singer Shan Johnson was found dead at her apartment in Chennai on Friday morning. She was 29.

Police said Shan (29) had come to her flat after completing a recording session and was scheduled to go for another assignment Friday morning. Other details were not known immediately.

Shan, a trained Carnatic and western musician, had rendered songs for Engeyayum Eppothdum and Paravai (both Tamil), Praise the Lord and Thira (Malayalam), among others. She had also composed music for a Malayalam film, His Name is John.

Shan’s father Johnson, fondly known as Johnson Master, was a renowned and respected music composer in Malayalam film industry. He passed away on August 18, 2011. In February 2012, his son Renn Johnson (23) was killed in a motorbike accident.

“When we broke open the door, she was lying on the bed. There were no signs of a suicide. She has been suffering from health problems and was under medication. That could also be a reason for the sudden death,” sources said.
