Neha had joined dance classes at the centre close to her place. She dropped by after office, treating it more as a means to keep fit. In time, she got selected to perform at their seasonal dance fest. There would be two performances, one on each day of the event. For the first day, she bought passes for her parents, aunts and uncles while the second day was reserved for her brother, Sam.
Neha had told Sam excitedly about the performance weeks ago. She had also discussed the other batch members, the long hours of practice and the songs they would dance to.. an old classic Amitabh Bachchan number, Pyaar pyaar..
The performance was at a hall in suburban Mumbai. She did well and he enjoyed every minute of it. In fact, Neha got a certificate for her performance.
Once in their car, Sam asked her playfully, “Will you dance for me?” She rolled her eyes. “What do you mean?” He said, “Will you perform for me? At home?” “But it will feel so odd..” she offered. “I got you something,” he went on unfazed, “but will only show it if you agree to dance.”
“Look, show it to me if you want to,” she said. “But I’m not going to dance just for you.” He was solemn. “I will keep that in mind. However, just to show you the gift you just missed.” He took out a CD and slipped it in the player. She watched the LCD monitor on the player. It read Pyaar, pyaar.. the song that she had performed to.
She laughed. “ You actually staged a real fight with me for this.” Sam laughed too. “I thought I should give you this song. And make you dance to my tunes..”
They hugged and drove home, the song playing softly in a loop.
