Whether it is to avoid paying for an over-priced bottle of wine or ditch those heart-shaped balloons, if you’ve decided to stay in on Valentine’s Day, read on.

It is common knowledge that there is very little premium to stepping out on special days like New Year’s Eve or Valentine’s Day. Restaurant kitchens are busy, which means they are just about dishing out your food, not really thinking of taste or aesthetics. Similarly, almost every item on the menu is marked up, after all this is the day to make some dough, right?

So, if you’ve been smart enough to figure it all out and have decided to spend an evening at home with your significant other, here’s how you can make it special.

Make dinner together: Food is a great connector. It also helps us engage all of our senses at the same time. So, go all out by picking three-four courses, divide chores, play some good music and get cooking. It’s not only relaxing to cook with your partner, but you may also discover newer traits about each other.

The weather, with its slight nip in air, is perfect for cosying up with your partner in the outdoors. (Shutterstock)

Have a campout: If you have the luxury of space, you can set up a few candles, sheets, wine and music in your balcony or terrace and create your own camping spot. The weather, with its slight nip in air, is perfect for cosying up with your partner. You can even add some sparkles and romantic lights to add to your evening.

Set up a scavenger hunt: Hide love notes and gifts for your partner to discover. Make it fun by sending them on a scavenger hunt to look for them.

Board games: Create your own board games by adding an element of dare for your partner to perform. Make them do some sexy tasks and enjoy the benefits (in bed).

Watch a scary film: Now, we know that people might advise you to watch a rom-com, well, because it’s Valentine’s Day. But you can always break the tradition and go for the unconventional. Also, a horror flick is the perfect reason to hold hands and come closer.
