In two more matches, Anish Giri of Holland got the better of Boris Gelfand of Israel while Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi played out a draw with fellow countryman Peter Svidler to join Anand in the lead.
The other two games of the day were also drawn – Russian Vladimir Kramnik failed to break the ice against Chinese Li Chao while after a disastrous first round, Russian Evgeny Tomashevsky was just happy to open his account against Levon Aronian of Armenia.
SAINA TARGETS RETURN BY NOVEMBER
HYDERABAD: Her recovery from a knee injury going ahead smoothly, India’s star shuttler Saina Nehwal is hoping to return to the courts by the end of next month.
The 26-year-old shuttler, who won a bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympics, hopes to play tournaments scheduled for November if she is match-fit by then. “May be tournaments slated in November if everything goes well,” she said, when asked which event she planned to play next.

SEOUL: Indian shuttlers Ajay Jayaram and B Sai Praneeth advanced to the men’s singles second round of the Korea Open in what was a mixed day for India at the USD 600,000 Super Series badminton tournament.
While Jayaram and Praneeth crossed the opening hurdle, K Srikanth, P Kashyap, HS Prannoy and Tanvi Lad fought equally hard in gruelling threeset games before bowing out of the tournament.
SIDDARTH BAGS MAIDEN CAREER SINGLES TITLE
MUMBAI: Siddarth Vishwakarma of Delhi won his first career men’s singles title on Wednesday by beating veteran Pune player Nitten Kirrtane 6-1, 7-6(2) in the MSLTA–ATT Tennis Tournament (M3) organised by Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association.
