RIO DE JANEIRO: Chinese weightlifter Deng Wei won Olympic gold in the women’s 63kg category with a world record Tuesday after Taiwanese rival Lin Tzuchi pulled out amid reports of a failed dope test.
Deng hoisted a combined total of 262kg in Rio on Tuesday, breaking the record held by Lin, who was a surprise late withdrawal from the competition.
“I didn’t know she wasn’t participating until the very beginning of the competition,” Deng said afterwards. “I haven’t heard anything about reports of her failing a dope test,” she added.
ARGENTINA WIN, BUT SPAIN LOSE AGAIN

RIO MEDIA BUS HIT BY STONES
An attack on a bus ferrying journalists at the Olympic Games was an “act of vandalism” carried out with rocks, the Rio 2016 security chief said Wednesday.
“Stones were thrown and hit the metal part of the windows of the bus,” Luiz Fernando Correa said. Correa said security along the route was being beefed up as a result of the attack.
