RIO DE JANEIRO: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has thrown out the appeal filed by 17 Russian rowers against their exclusion from 2016 Olympic Games, according to media reports on Wednesday.

The World Rowing Federation (FISA) had earlier ruled only six out of 28 Russian rowers would be allowed to compete in Rio, while the rest are banned from the Games as they lack doping tests made outside Russia.

Following the decision, Russian rowing boats that qualified for the Games in the LM4-, LW2x, M8+ and W8+ classes have been banned from competitions.

Their quotas will be handed over to other rowing crews in accordance with the rankings of the final qualifying Regatta held in Luzern in May 2016.

IOC MEMBERS FUME AT LATE RESPONSE

The World Anti-Doping Agency as on the receiving end of scorching criticism on Tuesday from the IOC who urged WADA to restore its reputation as the war of words over the timing of its response to the Russian doping scandal escalated.

WADA chief Craig Reedie was grilled at the International Olympic Committee session for what members said was a failure to act on information from whistle-blowers of widespread doping in Russia until it became public through the media.
