The German teenager is second in the drivers’ championship behind Australia’s Joey Mawson and a victory for Schumacher Junior on Saturday in the first of three races this weekend at the famous Nurburgring had closed the gap.
But Schumacher finished 15th in the second race on Sunday morning after race officials judged the German made contact with Mawson while racing and was handed a drive-through penalty, which cost him the chance to take points.
In the third and final race of the day, Schumacher then finished second, leaving him 46 points behind Mawson with six races left this season.
“It’s a pity that the outcome was decided by Mick getting a drive-through penalty,” said Mawson. “He made one small mistake which cost him dearly. But that’s racing.
“Anyway, I was lucky not to have been taken out by the move,” he added.
