Diego Maradona literally punched above his weight and jabbed an innocuous looping back pass past towering English goal-keeper Peter Shilton. Three minutes later Maradona scored what in 2000 was voted by FIFA as the goal of the century.

He scored an eerily similar goal against Belgium in the semifinals and then released Jorge Burruchaga to score the winner in the World Cup final against West Germany with a sublime pass. But, it will always be the genius of this goal, and the infamy of the other, that will be remembered most.
