With the mixed doubles event being introduced for the first time in the Games, in a TAC meeting headed by Jaidip Mukerjea in New Delhi on Thursday, it was concluded that Sania’s representation was crucial.

According to rules, the top 64 singles and top 10 doubles players are assured of a direct entry. Sania is currently ranked No. 105 in singles and No. 11 in doubles.

Sania still has time to improve her position as the entry deadline is June 21, 2012 and rankings as of June 11 will be considered for direct entry.
