After a shock win over the third-seeded pair of Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares in the pre-quarters, Bopanna and partner Edouard Roger-Vasselin edged out the sixth seeds to make the semifinals of the men's doubles event on Tuesday.

The 14th-seeded Indo-French pair was leading 7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-7 (4), 6-7 (3), 5-2 against Robert Lindstedt and Daniel Nestor when rain halted play. But they refused to let it hamper their frame of mind. Once play resumed, Bopanna and Roger-Vasselin came back on court to finish off the last four points and won the decider 6-2.

Bopanna and Roger-Vasselin played a superior game and won a total of 188 points as compared to 179 won by their opponents.

After winning the first two sets, it seemed they would hardly be troubled, but the sixth seeds refused to let the Indo-French pair off easy.

They came back strong to level scores. But once it came down to the decider, the 14th seeds stepped up their game until rain halted play.

Bopanna's campaign in the mixed doubles is also still on track. Partnering Jie Zheng of China, he has reached the third round.
