Bopanna-Mirnyi stun third seed

The combination of Rohan Bopanna and his new partner Max Mirnyi proved lethal as they accounted for the third seeded Mikhail Youzhny and Mischa Zverev in the opening round of the US$ 1,049,000 St Petersburg Open in Russia.

Indian Davis Cupper Bopanna and Belarusian Mirnyi took exactly one hour to script the ouster of Russian-German pair 6-3 6-4 to move to the quarterfinals of the hard court event.

The unseeded Indo-Belarusian pair dropped their serve twice in the first set but compensated by breaking their rivals as many times to take lead.

They then denied their rivals the one and only conversion chance in the second set and broke their rivals on the first opportunity in hand to move to the next level.

They will fight it out with Russian pair of Igor Kunitsyn and Marat Safin for a place in the semifinals.
