Djokovic's winning streak dates to Serbia's win in the Davis Cup final last December. This year, he's started 28-0, the best start to a season since Ivan Lendl went 29-0 in 1989.

Third-seeded Tomas Berdych and fifth-seeded Robin Soderling were also winners.

In women's singles, Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic eased past second-seeded Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals.

Nadal wins
World number one Rafa Nadal began his quest for a third clay title in less than a month with a 6-1 6-3 drubbing of unseeded Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis in the second round on Wednesday. The Spaniard did not face a single break point on his serve and converted his first match point when he whipped a forehand winner down the line.
