In a meeting held Friday evening, DLTA has decided to set up a residential tennis academy in its refurbished complex, which will be operational after the Fenesta-DSCL Nationals in October. In the first stage, DLTA will induct 10 boys and 10 girls in the scheme whose boarding and lodging will be taken care of. Also, they will receive free coaching and travel for various tournaments.

The selection of the 20 players will be done by a committee which will include Rajpal, who is also the Fed Cup captain, Davis Cup captain SP Misra, the junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup captains. The sports ministry has agreed to provide assistance for the induction of a foreign coach and trainer to the tune of $7000-8000 per month while the additional money will be borne by the academy.
