Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva, were killed in a car crash in the early hours of Thursday morning in Spain. According to the Spanish Civil Guard, the two were found dead after their Lamborghini veered off the road and caught fire near the western city of Zamora. Investigators confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the accident. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Liverpool Football Club released a statement saying, “Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andrés family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss. We will continue to provide them with our full support.”

André Silva, 25, was also a professional footballer, playing as an attacking midfielder for Portuguese lower-division side F.C. Penafiel.

UEFA also paid tribute to the two brothers in a statement: "On behalf of the European football community, we are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Diogo Jota, Portugal international and Liverpool FC forward, along with his brother André Silva. Our thoughts are with their family, friends, teammates and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss."

Just hours before the crash, Diogo Jota shared an emotional video on Instagram capturing his wedding to longtime partner and mother of his three children, Rute Cardoso. The two were married in Porto just two weeks ago. The post was simply captioned: “A day we will never forget.”

His final message on X (formerly Twitter), posted five days earlier, also celebrated their wedding. Sharing a series of photos from the ceremony, he wrote: “June 22, 2025. Yes, forever.”
