Hopeful on Houghton

The AIFF, Patel said, is hopeful that national coach Bob Houghton would stay till the Asian Cup finals next January. "We have a valid contract with Bob till January 31 and as of now, I can say that he continues to be our national coach."

Reacting to a report in The Telegraph, a Kolkata daily, that Houghton has sought a pay hike and could leave if that is denied, Patel said: "If there is an issue about his contract, I am sure (Alberto) Colaco (the AIFF general secretary) will be able to sort that out."

The report, quoting AIFF sources, said Houghton has sought a monthly raise of $10,000 immediately. The report also said Houghton has an annual salary of $240,000 along with perks that include five-star accommodation.
