Viktor Troicki, who won the decisive fifth rubber in 2010's final against France to give Serbia their first Davis Cup title, replaced Djokovic for the clash with David Nalbandian.

Djokovic suffered his injury after the third set of his US Open final victory against Rafael Nadal in New York on Monday.

In the second rubber later Friday, Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic will face Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro.
