Odemwingie popped up to sink the in-form Seasiders on 87 minutes, just after an 80th-minute equaliser from Blackpool's Gary Taylor-Fletcher looked to have secured a share of the points for the visitors.
Blackpool, riding high after their 2-1 win over Liverpool in midweek, looked to have done enough to earn a draw after stretching West Brom with their trademark attacking football for long periods.
Blackpool had taken the lead courtesy of David Vaughan after only 11 minutes, the midfielder curling a superb shot into the top corner just beyond the grasp of Baggies keeper Boaz Myhill.
But West Brom deservedly got back on level terms on 37 minutes, Odemwingie slotting in a cross from Graham Dorrans.
James Morrison made it 2-1 to the Baggies early in the second half as Roberto di Matteo's side gradually began to get on top as they aimed to end a run of six consecutive defeats in all competitions.
Yet Taylor-Fletcher's strike 10 minutes from time appeared to have denied the home side victory as Blackpool's famed never-say-die approach came to the fore once more.
Odemwingie made sure that the Hawthorns fans would return home happy however for a win that moves Albion away from the relegation zone.
