Earlier, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified ahead of her gold-medal bout in women's 50kg wrestling, a development that dominated the news throughout the day.

Paris Olympics 2024, Day 12 Highlights: Mirabai Chanu managed a best lift of 88kg in snatch, which had put her in the bronze medal position. However, she then managed to get a best lift of 111kg in ahead of the clean and jerk rounds and that left her with a total lift of 199kg. This meant that Mirabai finished fourth and she thus missed out on a historic second Olympic medal. For India, Day 12 was dominated by the heartbreaking news of wrestler Vinesh Phogat being disqualified from the women's 50kg gold medal match after failing to make weight on the morning of the bout. Vinesh was found to be 100gm overweight. She had become the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the gold medal bout in the wrestling event yesterday. "She was found overweight by 100gm this morning. The rules do not allow this and she has been disqualified," an Indian coach said.
