Tokyo Olympics Highlights Day 1: The Indian contingent got off the mark as Mirabai Chanu won the country's first medal in Tokyo. She grabbed silver in the women's 49kg weightlifting event. Shooters failed to win any medal. And finally, the Indian women's hockey team lost 1-5 to the Netherlands.

Tokyo Olympics Highlights Day 1: Mirabai Chanu won India's first medal at the Tokyo Olympics, winning a silver medal in 49kg weightlifting with a total lift of 202 kg. Saurabh Chaudhary finished 7th in the 10m air pistol final. The duo of Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav lost to Korea in the mixed team quarter-finals. Shuttler B Sai Praneeth crashes out in the first round. India paddlers Manika Batra and Sharath Kamal lose to Chinese Taipei in the first round. Harmanpreet Singh's brace gives India a win in their first men's hockey match of Group A. Elavenil Valarivan and Apurvi Chandela failed to produce their best in the Women's 10m Air Rifle Qualification. Moreover, shooter Saurabh Chaudhary finished 7th in the men's 10m air pistol event. For the TT contingent, it was a sorry start as Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra crashed out in the mixed doubles event.

However, the smiles were back as Manika Batra thumped GBR's Tin-Tin Ho 4-0 in just 30 minutes to advance to the second round.

An hour later, Mukherjee earned a hard-fought 4-3 win

MADE TO FIGHT BUT SHE TRIUMPHS

Linda Bergstroem took a 3-1 lead and looked the more comfortable of the two. She was playing it patiently but was still ineffective with her backhand chops.

Sutirtha brought out her offensive game and played them convincingly to win the next three games and seal a place in the second round.

0-4: A short-arm, backhand jab from the Swede but the down-the-line shoots long.

0-5: Mukherjee with a heavy, topspin forehand drive and the Swede's return flies long of the table.

0-6: Brilliant rally! A long one which eventually ends with Linda tapping the ball over the table.

1-6: First point for Linda comes from Mukherjee's unforced error.

1-7: Once again, Linda is unable to return the booming forehand drive from the Indian.

2-8: The Indian running away with this game now.

3-10: Patient rally from the Indian as she has seven game points.
