Bhiwani’s young boxer makes her mark in the world ring
Boxer Jasmine Lamboria recently won a bronze medal for India in women’s 60kg lightweight category, at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. She talks about fulfilling a childhood dream and the desire to live up to the faith that her well wishers have shown in her.
At just 21 years of age, Jasmine Lamboria has already made a place for herself in the world of professional boxing. The youngster from Haryana’s Bhiwani recently won a bronze medal for India in women’s 60kg lightweight category at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, and is returning home with pride.

“Yeh mera pehla Commonwealth Games tha, aur maine medal jeeta. Iss baat se main khush hun. It’s a great feeling when you are performing in front of Indian supporters, and you see them all cheering for you and the country. Ek boost milta hai,” says the rising star, and goes on to talk about the positive influence her coach has had on her performance: “My coach has always been very supportive and stands next to me in everything. Even during my training, he instilled the belief in me that I am capable of accomplishing big things on a global platform.”
“Mere saare matches se pehle sir ne bahut confidence diya. When I am in the ring, I make sure I’m all ears to what he is saying, from the outside, and try to implement it in my boxing,” says Lamboria sharing how her interest in this was inculcated at a young age. “I was inspired by the many boxing heroes in our country. Aaj maine bhi unke jaise desh ke liye kuch kara hai; yeh soch kar achha lag raha hai. Jab chotti thi tab mera yahi sapna tha ki main bhi un sabki tarah apne desh ka naam uncha kar sakoon. I’m proud of doing my bit in bringing more glory to boxing, the sport that is very close to my heart,” she adds.
On the path to success, she keeps her focus intact and shares, “Ghar jaakar sabke saath bahut sara jashn manana hai. Sab khush hain aur intezar kar rahe hain (mere aane ka)... Meri practice pe mera poora dyaan hai kyunki main chahti hun ki agle competition mein mai aur achha karun. I would like to continue to live up to the faith that everyone has shown in me in all these years.”
