PARIS: Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna won their respective second-round matches in the French Open here on Friday.

Sixth s eeds Ro han Bopanna and Florin Mergea won their second-round men’s doubles match, beating French pair Gregoire Barrere and Quentin Halys 6-3, 6-4.

Leander Paes and Marcin Matkowski, seeded 16th, later produced another dominating performance to earn a 6-4, 6-3 win in their secondround match against Julian Knowle and Florian Mayer.

Paes-Matkowski won 63 of the 105 total points played, hit 2 winners to none from their opponents and converted three of the four break points received.

FOCUS ON KARMAN

All eyes will be on Karman Kaur Thandi when the junior event starts at Roland Garros next week. Not only has the 17-year-old been having a good run in women’s events in Italy, Thandi had made the prequarters of the last two Grand Slams - US and Australian Opens.

Currently training at the Mouratoglou academy in Nice, Karman is playing the junior events only in the Grand Slams, the focus being making the women’s tour. Ranked 645 in the WTA chart and 42 in the juniors, she’s recently made semis and quarters in women’s events in Italy. At Roland Garros, she will be pairing with Australian Jamie Fourlis in the doubles.
