German fans discussed octopus recipes Twitter and Facebook accounts. “Grill the octopus oracle. Throw Paul in the saucepan,” tweeted one. “Into the deep fryer!” agreed another.

Some posts however suggested that Paul should be put to better use, for example, currency movements for the government.
