Youzhny confirms Chennai participation

Mikhail Youzhny of Russia has confirmed his entry to compete in the Chennai Open ATP Tennis Championship starting here from December 31.
After World Number Two Rafael Nadal of Spain, Youzhny becomes the second top rung player to confirm his participation in the 13th edition of the USD 4,16,000 championship.
The Russian bestowed with single handed backhand as his forte, rated as high as World Number ten in August this year, has a career head-to-head of 3-5 with Nadal,and known for his epic battle before going down to the Spaniard this Wimbledon 2007. Youzhny was leading two sets to love before he lost his nerve and Nadal went on to win a tough five-setter.
Youzhny began 2007 as the second highest ranked Russian on the circuit behind Nikolay Davydenko and lost in the Australian Open to eventual winner, Roger Federer but won his third ATP career title in Rotterdam. He reached the final of the Dubai Open after beating 2nd seeded Nadal in the quarter final.
Fernando Solar, tournament director, has commented that Youzhny has been a consistent player on the circuit and he would be a treat to watch.
Meanwhile, Balu Nayar, Managing Director of IMG India, owners of the tournament said 'After Nadal, having yet another top ranked player confirm augurs well for the Chennai Open.
