World number 15 Youzhny saw off Cilic, the world number 11, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to win his first ATP tournament of the year having been beaten in the Rotterdam and Dubai finals in February.

It was also the Russian's first victory here at the third attempt having finished runner-up on his previous two visits to Munich, losing out to Philipp Kohlschreiber in 2007 and going down to the Czech Republic's Tomas Berdych last year.
