Say the name ‘Monica Bellucci’ in a room full of men and watch their jaws drop. The Italian beauty, who became every red-blooded male’s fantasy after playing the innocent seductress in the film Malena (2000), talks about the compliments she values above all others, saying, “All the compliments from my children really mean the world to me.”

Bellucci has been married to husband, French actor Vincent Cassel, since 1999 — a feat that is relatively unheard of in showbiz. Ask her how she manages to make their relationship work, and she shoots back, “I am very close to my family. They have always been my first priority. Whenever I get time, I like to spend it with my husband and two wonderful children.”

She admits that managing a hectic career on the silver screen, along with being a mother and wife, can be challenging. “Sometimes, life can be chaotic with children and career. But Vincent and I have learned to balance our time between work and family,” says the 47-year-old star.

Monica is also considered an icon for being one of the few top female actors to allow her wrinkles to show. Test her on her attitude towards plastic surgery, and she answers, “I don’t have any laws about plastic surgery. People are entitled to choose for themselves and we should respect that.”

The face of Oriflame’s Royal Velvet range does, however, bat for ageing gracefully. “ I believe that beauty means being able to be natural, without needing to wear make-up all the time. Today, there are great anti-ageing products that not only improve skin, but also show visible results."

As for her ever-changing persona on-screen, she says that she’s fallen in love with every role. “I love the constant challenges that acting provides. Every film I have chosen to do, there was an instant attraction to the character I played.”
